The Spanish Super Cup (Supercopa de España) opens the trophy calendar of the Spanish football season, and the 2027 edition is staged in Istanbul between 2 and 6 February 2027 across three of the city's club stadiums. Recent editions have been played away from Spain, and the Istanbul edition brings the competition to the grounds of Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş and Galatasaray. It counts in a club's honours list, which is why the sides that qualify send out full-strength teams rather than treating the week as pre-season.

Four clubs, three matches, one week: Barcelona meet Atlético Madrid in the first semi-final, Real Sociedad face Real Madrid in the second, and the winners meet in the final on the Saturday. That is the whole tournament, and it is what makes this edition unusual to buy for. There is no long calendar to spread interest across — every fixture is an elimination match, and the week is over almost as soon as it begins.

The Spanish Super Cup is a short knockout competition rather than a league: four clubs qualify through the previous season's domestic league and cup, two semi-finals open the tournament, and the winners meet in the final. With only three fixtures on the calendar, every match is an elimination match and there is no group stage to recover in.

That structure changes how the week feels for a supporter. The two semi-finals are played on consecutive evenings at the start of the week and the final follows on the Saturday at a third ground, so a supporter can attend one match, both semi-finals or the whole set — and the choice is made per fixture rather than as a package.

Each of the three fixtures is ticketed on its own, so a seat for the final commits you to nothing earlier in the week, and a seat for a semi-final says nothing about who plays the final. How the four places are allocated between the league and the cup is set out on the about the tournament page.

The 2027 edition is played at three grounds rather than one. The first semi-final is at Chobani Stadium, Fenerbahçe's home in Kadıköy on the Asian side; the second at Tüpraş Stadium, Beşiktaş's covered ground on the Bosphorus shore beside Dolmabahçe Palace; and the final at Rams Park, Galatasaray's stadium in Seyrantepe on the northern edge of the European side. Every match kicks off at 22:00 Istanbul time.

Three venues for one tournament simplify some decisions and complicate others. Attending more than one match means a different journey each night — the Marmaray under the Bosphorus to Kadıköy, the tram to Kabataş, the metro branch north to Seyrantepe — which turns where you stay into a single decision that has to work for all three rather than for one route.

February in Istanbul is cold and the late kick-off puts the whole match after dark, so matchday planning matters more here than at a summer fixture. Because the tournament runs on a knockout bracket, demand does not build evenly across the three dates. Interest in the final climbs sharply once the two qualifiers are known, and that happens only three days before it is played — which leaves very little room to arrange travel afterwards.
