How the 2027 Spanish Super Cup Line-Up Was Decided
The Spanish Super Cup has no qualifying rounds of its own. Its four places go to the winners and runners-up of the previous season's LaLiga and Copa del Rey, and the same results fix the bracket: the league champions play the cup runners-up, and the cup winners play the league runners-up. For 2027 that produced Barcelona vs Atlético Madrid on 2 February and Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid on 3 February, both one-off matches in Istanbul. The two winners meet in the final at Rams Park on 6 February.
The league places were settled on 10 May 2026, when Barcelona beat Real Madrid 2–0 at Camp Nou to clinch the title with three matches to spare. Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres scored inside the first 18 minutes, and it was the club's 29th league title. Barcelona finished on 94 points and Real Madrid second on 86, which gave Madrid the runners-up place. Villarreal were third on 72 and Atlético fourth on 69, but Atlético's place in Istanbul came through the cup.
The cup places were decided on 18 April 2026 at La Cartuja in Seville. Real Sociedad scored in the first minute, Ademola Lookman equalised for Atlético, Mikel Oyarzabal restored the lead from the spot just before half-time and Julián Álvarez made it 2–2 seven minutes from the end of normal time. Extra time brought no more goals, Real Sociedad won the shoot-out 4–3 with goalkeeper Unai Marrero named man of the match, and the club lifted the Copa del Rey for the fourth time.
The regulations also cover overlaps. If a cup finalist also finishes in the league's top two, both cup finalists keep their places and the league places pass down the table. That clause shaped the 2026 edition: Barcelona had won both the league and the cup, Real Madrid had finished second in both, so Atlético and Athletic Club came in as third and fourth in LaLiga. This time the four places went to four different clubs, nothing passed down to Villarreal, and the standard pairings stand: Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid tickets.
