Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid: The First Super Cup Pairing Returns in Istanbul
Real Sociedad and Real Madrid meet in the second semi-final of the 2027 Spanish Super Cup on Wednesday 3 February. The match is at Tüpraş Stadium, Beşiktaş's ground in Istanbul, which sits beside Dolmabahçe Palace on the Bosphorus shore, and kicks off at 22:00 local time, 20:00 in Spain. Real Sociedad qualified as Copa del Rey winners, Real Madrid as LaLiga runners-up. The winner plays Barcelona or Atlético Madrid in the final at Rams Park on Saturday 6 February.
These two clubs were there at the very start. The first Super Cup, in 1982, pitted Real Sociedad, the league champions, against Real Madrid, the cup winners. Madrid took the first leg 1–0 at the Bernabéu in October, but in the return at Atocha on 28 December Real Sociedad won 4–0 after extra time to lift the trophy 4–1 on aggregate. It is still their only Super Cup, while Real Madrid have gone on to win 13. The venue is used to big one-off nights: Tüpraş Stadium, opened in 2016, staged the 2019 UEFA Super Cup between Liverpool and Chelsea.
Real Madrid are chasing a 14th title after losing the last two finals to Barcelona; Real Sociedad arrive as cup holders and want a second, 44 years after the first. One match settles it, with no second leg to put things right. It is a midweek evening with a late kick-off, so sort out your plans early: Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid tickets.
